Day Out in Galle With Jetliner

2Jetliner1The word “Cruising” conjures up images of conquistadors supervising deckhands under sprawling canvas sails as they cross the ocean to a new world, or the Dutch and Portuguese or even the Arab armada glide in to trade or battle on the sparkling sea. Though the imagery is archaic, the spirit of those grand voyages is alive and can be experienced through a Sri Lankan Cruise aboard the “Jetliner” that served as a life line between the north and east during the humanitarian operations. Now the Jetliner has set sail on a new venture to promote tourism in Sri Lanka. Providing the potential traveler a new experience.

One of the many Cruises offered is a day out to Galle aboard this magnificent ship. Galle has long been a stopover for foreign travelers; Sinbad the sailor, the Chinese admiral Cheng Ho, Marco Polo, the Portuguese admiral Lorenzo de Almeida, the Dutch VOC company and even the first package tours in 1842 with the arrival of the first P & O passenger ship. All have reverberated Marco Polo's sentiment that "it is better than any other island in the world" and whilst Galle may have had its halcyon days, it has now become the new Riviera of the sub continent and the perfect time warp for the inquisitive traveler.

2JetlinerBegin your voyage from the Colombo Sri Lanka Harbor and be enthralled by Scenic landscapes and beautiful coastlines which accompany you as you head towards the walled city of Galle. Today's town has grown greatly into the hinterlands, but the Fort in the heart of this town stands still as the picture of a bygone age. The southern coastal belt is the most popular among the tourists and comes to life mainly from October through April when the monsoon moves northeast and the sea becomes calm with blue skies this indeed provides you with the ideal setting for a relaxing cruise aboard the Jetliner. The earliest European administrative centre of Sri Lanka was the major port and the largest city until the British shifted the port to Colombo.

The Sea and beaches take no back seat to any other in the world and what better way to soak up all the glories of nature but through a magnificent Sri lankan cruise aboard this resplendent cruise ship. Galle can be reached at mid day and there on the passengers are allowed to enjoy themselves by engaging in a little sightseeing, basking in the sun or engaging in other water sport activities. Galle seaport, the first landing seaport of the Arabs, the Portuguese, the Dutch & the English being only 5 km away, Unawatuna provides several interesting Wreck Dives too. Lord Nelson, a cargo ship & Rangoon are reachable. The beach is ideal for safe swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving & even for you to learn surfing. The reef shelters more species of fish than the Great Barrier Reef. It is said by many industry experts to be amongst the top ten beaches of the world and is just a Kilo meter away from Galle. The Galle Fort which is a UNESCO world heritage site is another remarkable place to visit. Soon the Jetliner will offer excursions such as whale watching as Sri Lanka is one of the countries where the most number of sperm whale and blue whale can be spotted. Passengers are required to come back aboard the vessel where you will make your way back to the Colombo harbor. A Sri Lankan cruise what better way to experience the glories of the sun kissed beaches the stunning mangroves and all the luxurious sights that nature has to offer.
